Sunday I had a wonderful time at the 10e Journée Nationale de Généalogie et histoire locale in Leudelange, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It was the 10th anniversary of the event (as you can see in the name) also known as the 10. Nationaler Tag der Genealogie und Lokalgeschichte or 10th National Day of Genealogy and Local History.
JNGH 2015 was organized by Luxracines under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and the commune of Leudelange with the National Archives of Luxembourg and the National Library of Luxembourg. Participants came from Belgium, France, Germany, and Luxembourg.
I planned to attend in the afternoon just to have a look around. Then late Saturday evening I got an email from Rob Deltgen, president of my genealogy society Luxracines. Something had come up and they were short a person to work their stand. I was flattered he thought I was competent enough to work on the other side of the table helping people with their research problems. What an experience it was working side by side with Jean-Pierre WEIDERT (middle) and Francy RISCH (right)!
It was interesting to see participants and visitors whom I’d met in Wittlich (Germany), Yutz (France), and Saarlouis (Germany) over the past 2+ years I’ve been a member of Luxracines.
Following my two hour shift at the Luxracines stand, I had a look at the other participants’ stands.
I missed the Luxracines trip to the National Archives of Luxembourg (Archives Nationales de Luxembourg) so I took a moment to stop at their stand. The lady I talked to was so nice and I definitely want to go to ANLux, as the Luxembourgers call it, in the near future.
Several members of Luxracines had their own stands including Tun Jacobi who descends from a line of executioners.
Danielle Grosbusch is an artist who makes wonderful family trees on paper, wood, and canvas using a quill and watercolors. All genealogy information is entered by hand and takes weeks to finish.
Rob Deltgen had his own stand for his website deltgen.com and I made sure we got our picture taken together.
The event was a huge success with more visitors than in any of the other years. Luxracines wants to thank all the participants and visitors and we hope to see everyone in 2016!

Next year I plan to spend the entire day there, attend the conferences and lectures, and learn more about genealogy research in the countries surrounding Luxembourg.

I’m sure you have had a great day there. I know from my own experience that it’s greater fun from the helpers’ side of the stand. Visitors come with so many different interesting questions, it’s always a challenge, too.

You are so right Karen. Most of the people who came (I was only there for 2 hrs int he morning) were starting out and had gotten at least one or two generations from their local records office. As you know the records offices will pull records for related persons and only if you have dates. Many visitors were wanting to know how they could continue back.
