UPDATE: The photograph featured here was partly mis-identified. Corrections were posted in Old Photographs Saved From Trash Can ~ #45 Three LILLIE Men and #46 Husband and Wife (Corrections)
The first person whose photograph was featured in this series was my 1st cousin 4 times removed Albert Spencer LILLIE (1848-1913). Today I would like to share with you a picture of his son George Wyte LILLIE and two of his grandsons.
George’s brother Isaac Spencer “Ike” LILLIE (1872-1932) was the husband of Florence ROYALTY (1868-1946), the original collector of these old photographs. Ike and Florence were the parents of three sons and two daughters. They lost one child at a young age before the 1900 census.
This photograph was taken in
the late 1920s or early 1930s in 1930. George, in the middle with a cigar, and his nephews, Raymond Egbert “Splitty” LILLIE (1904-1970) on the left and Samuel Royalty “Roy” LILLIE (1895-1979) on the right.
The LILLIE men are standing in front of the apartment Roy rented at 2122 Marantette St. in Detroit, Michigan. George’s brother Ike’s wife Florence was listed as married and living in her son Roy’s household at this address. Also in the household were Ike’s children Raymond and Ruth and Roy’s son Lynn Vance LILLIE. In 1930 Ike was still living but not found in the census. It is believed he may have been living in Brookport, Massac County, Illinois were he died in 1932. In 1940 Roy, Raymond, and Ruth were still living at the same address with their mother Florence.
