This photograph was taken on 22 May 1938 at The Pike, an amusement area, in Long Beach, California.
I believe the man on the left is George Wyte LILLIE (1874-1943) – see comparison below from Old Photographs Saved From Trash Can ~ #45 Three LILLIE Men and #46 Husband and Wife (Corrections). The way the corner of his mouth turns down on the right and the ears convinced me. Do you think I’m right?
George, the brother of Ike LILLIE, was married three times. His last marriage was to an English woman named Jeanette A. BALL (first married to John E. HILBISH in 1906). They were seen together on the 1930 and 1940 census. Jeanette was listed as his spouse on his death record. She is most likely the woman on the left holding a bottle.
At first I thought the man on the right was George’s nephew Samuel Royalty “Roy” LILLIE, son of Isaac Spencer “Ike” LILLIE and Florence ROYALTY. However his forehead is too high to be Roy as you will see in the next post in this series.

The mouth and ears look the same in each photo so your supposition is a distinct possibility.

I actually think the nose and eyes look the same in the second and third pictures. His eyes are kind of soulful and his nose is broad at the end.

Thank you Michelle. Nice description of the facial features. I’m a bit jealous. 🙂

I should have mention that the back of the photo, which I didn’t include, had Long Beach Pike written on the back with the date taken and California. I was surprised to learn what The Pike was. Confirmed my suspicion that the photo was a souvenir shot. Thank you Amberly.

What a fun picture! As far as comparing to the three others, I definitely see a resemblance to the middle one and the one to the right, but I can’t see the one on the left clearly enough to know. (Sorry for the delay—been on the road with limited internet.)
