The door in this brick wall isn’t budging!
The parents and siblings of Jeremiah SIMS are unknown. Jeremiah, the father of James SIMS 1754-1845 of Nicholas County, Virginia (now West Virginia), was born about 1730 and died in 1768 in Culpeper County, Virginia. In his will he mentioned his nephews Thomas GRAVES and Jonathan SIMS and his loving friend Edward SIMS. Further research is needed to determine the parents of these nephews.
It is believed by some that Thomas SIMS and Rebecca PETTY were the parents of Jeremiah but this has not been proven. For research purposes I’ve attached two sets of parents to Jeremiah: an [–?–] SIMS and Thomas SIMS & Rebecca PETTY.
RMSR, a researcher who spent years researching the SIMS line and searching for the parents of Jeremiah, passed the torch on to me this past summer when she sent me her entire “Sims Library”, weighing in at nearly 40 lbs.

Y-DNA testing has been done on this line and results point to John Sims and Jeremiah Sims being brothers. This means the most likely parent was John’s father James Sims. He was also the father of Robert, Bartlett, and George. Possibly the step-father of Edward Sims. I’m planning on looking into the connection next year. Thanks for your help Cathy. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I went off on another family line! I descend from Jeremiah thru James Sr and Elizabeth Cotton, James Jr, James Wesley, William Sims, James Sims, John Sims, then my father Maurice Eugene Sims. It was interesting researching the name I carried for so many years!

Susan, this is a real surprise. The man who did the Y-DNA test was your 1C1R. I did not have your grandfather John Sims’ marital information or children.

John Sims was married two times. First to my grandmother Lucille Eyman, they divorced when my dad was a baby. They both remarried and had other families. We had no contact whatever with the Sims family until my dad’s half brother Ralph contacted him when they were in their 50’s. My sister and I did go to Swiss, WV and saw the Sims UMC established on land donated by James Sims. We also saw his gravestone as James is buried there. All the info is on my tree if you wish to take a look and gather info on John’s line.
